15 Films Not to Miss at FrightFest 2015

FrightFest 2015 has unleashed its line-up of films for this years festival  and with so much choice on offer this year (73 in total with 19 World, 16 European and 24 UK premieres) it's going to be a difficult choice to choose which films will make the cut.

Whether it's a creature feature, home invasion thriller, blood soaked slasher or late night anthology, this years festival is not short of bringing together every sun-genre of horror and here we've compiled a list of the 15 films not to be missed.

Turbo Kid

Thursday 27th August - Film4 Screen - 20:40

For those who like their movies with blood, guts and stylish visuals need nowhere else to go but opening night at FrightFest 2015. If you thought Mad Max: Fury Road was too tame for the post-apocalypse then ‘Turbo Kid’ promises to ramp up the violence with a splash of grindhouse visuals and retro flashback to a time when your brains were left at the cinema door.

James Wan’s 'Demonic'

Friday 28th August - Film4 Screen - 10:45

What better way to wake up from the hangover of opening night than with the modern master of horror. James Wan may have defected to Hollywood action with ‘Fast and Furious 6’ but his foot remains firmly in the door as producer of Will Canon’s ‘Demonic’. This promises your usual span of supernatural hauntings as a police officer and psychologist investigate the deaths of five people who were summoning the dead.

Worry Dolls

Friday 28th August - Splice Media Screen - 15:30

When a serial killer is shot dead, his belongings are innocently taken and sold as gifts by a small shop owner. When those who snapped up the dolls begin to repeat the killer’s actions, the reason for the murders quickly comes to surface. Looking like 2015’s answer to Child’s Play without the humour, ‘Worry Dolls’ could be the sleeper hit of this years festival.

III

Friday 28th August - Discovery Screen 2 - 18:15

III is our must-see of the festival. Want to know why? Well, Russia may not be known for it’s horror but Pavel Khvaleev’s  supernatural thriller is both terrifying and visually stunning rivaling the likes of ‘Silent Hill’ for its presence in the genre for cult horror. Read our 5 star review for more but whatever happens, DO NOT MISS THIS FILM!

Final Girl

Friday 28th August - Discovery Screen 2 - 20:50

‘Final Girl’ was featured in our top 15 for 2015 and it’s great to see that the UK premiere will soon be upon us at this years festival. Tyler Shield’s may be more famous as a photographer but his keen eye for detail appears to show through in his directorial debut, ‘Final Girl’. A group of rich boys seeking pleasure from the murder of young girls get more than they expect when they pick up Abigail Breslin. Unlike the usual shlock horror of the fem-revenge thriller, ‘Final Girl’ let’s its leading lady handle the boys in a fashion far more preplanned and brutal.
