Top 13 Horror Films of 2015

The only thing more exciting than enjoying a good film, it's the thrill of seeing it a second time and here is our list of the top 13 horror films of 2015.

#13: Tales of Halloween

The Anthology of the year goes to ‘Tales of Halloween’. Not seen since 2007’s ‘Trick r Treat’ has so much horror been injected into an anthology with so much passion. From directors Neil Marshall, Axelle Carolyn and Darren Lynn Bousman amongst others, these ten stories are sure to be an annual treat amongst horror fans leaving a new genre favourite to add to the growing collections of ‘Halloween’ and ‘Trick r Treat’. With the devil, ghosts, aliens and axe murders all at large, this is one town you don’t want to visit late at night.

#12: Krampus

Speaking of festivities, the shadow of Santa makes a welcome return to the screen in the biggest present of all in 2015. Fun, shocks and plenty of horror to sink your teeth into, ‘Krampus’ gave Christmas the injection of fun that it has needed for a number of years. Matching ‘Gremlins’ for its style of “family” frolic’s yet standing tall on its own merits, this is sure to be seen a classic in years to come.

#11: III

This small Russian film from director Pavel Khvaleev is perhaps THE must-see film of the year. Seen on a small number of festival circuits including our very own FrightFest, the film has seen rave reviews and manages to bring an element of culture to the genre. Blending innocence with a sinister dwelling, ‘III’ manages to delve into the human emotion in a way only matched by the imaginations of ‘Silent Hill’. Amazing to look at and as deep in story as it is in beauty; ‘III’ is a film that is not to be missed on its inevitable release to the masses in 2016.

#10: Turbo Kid

Coming out of nowhere came this summer’s biggest blockbuster that had little in the way of story or character as Mad Max took a passenger seat in a ride through an apocalyptic dessert. Along with that post-apocalyptic ride came a new legend on a bike, or should I say, bicycle...

Turbo Kid put the grin on any horror fans face who wanted an adult mash-up of G-Force: Guardians of Space and the Thunderdome of Mad Max pitting an innocent child into a battle worn world where the blood spills more fluently than water. Turbo Kid arrived, and Turbo Kid delivered in being the biggest ball of fun in 2015.

#9: It Follows

Taking heavy inspiration from the slashers of yesteryear, ‘It Follows’ pitches itself nicely in between the supernatural ethos of A Nightmare on Elm Street with the spirit of John Carpenter’s Halloween in what can only be explained as the most extreme game of Tag we’ve seen. the haunting soundtrack and mystery of the unknown is perfectly manoeuvred by writer and director David Robert Mitchell who has set the benchmark extremely high in his directorial debut.

Hopefully what follows this film is a trail of sequels that lead back to the source.
