The Rezort

Pitching itself firmly between JURASSIC PARK and WESTWORLD with Zombies, THE REZORT has a formulaic scenario played out to unexpectedly dull effect.

When a group of tourists visit the Rezort, they know what they are expecting. A vacation where the dead are the hunted and they live in an environment safe from their terror and more from their amazement. As expected, this trip doesn’t go to plan and when the gates to the park malfunction, all Hell quite literally breaks loose.

On paper THE REZORT should be a fun blast through an action packed 90 minutes of fun, unfortunately it tries too hard to be dramatic in a heavily predictable cliché. The group are picked up one by one and as the film plays through its paces, the willowing cast fight for survival. Yet all the fight given by the cast never really matters as there’s never enough to care about.

The film is neither stylish nor gritty enough for a zombie film and the lack of humour means there’s none of the holy trinity of zombie films to save this from the abysmal depths of mediocrity.  Despite a usually stellar cast in Dougray Scott (HEMLOCK GROVE, THE VATICAN TAPES) and Jessica De Gouw (DRACULA, THESE FINAL HOURS, ARROW) seem like they are racing for a pay check.

It’s shame to share so much discomfort with THE REZORT but it is just a shadow of so many better films. There’s no denying there IS zombie action but it’s so forgettable that unless you are a true zombie enthusiast, that it just echoes in comparison to so many great zombie films. The film’s pace and temperament fail the films concept and cries for a more stylish edge or opting to route itself in the survivors struggle more emotionally, this could have been a highlight for the genre. Instead we’re given a third rate replica of DEAD RISING with no sign of life to resurrect.
