Shock and Gore Festival 2014

Shock and Gore festival is set amongst the two screens of the UK’s oldest working cinema. Amongst the hustle and bustle of Britains second city, The Electric Cinema hosts the annual shock fest holding advance screenings and showings of some of the genres treasures as well as cult classics and theatrics from the world of horror.

Previously showing premieres to ‘Inbred’, Q&A with Ben Wheatley and the infamous Shock and Gore all nighter (once again returning with some treasured classics) the festival is a must attend for horror buffs around the country.

2014 sees the festival look back at some of British cinema’s terrifying sights with exclusive showing of ‘The Innocents’ and Dennis Potters ‘Brimstone and Treacle’ along with Hammer Horror classic ‘The Devil Rides Out’ and French chiller ‘Eyes Without A Face’. All of this wrapped up with Q&A’s, exclusive introductions and a feast of pleasures from the bar to the stage.

The biggest theme for the fourth festival is the history of LGBT cinema history in horror. Accompanying the screening of ‘I Am Divine’ starring drag starling Divine will be a presentation ‘Queer Eye For the Dead Guy’ glancing over the history of LGBT in the genre.

But probably the highlight for this year will be the surreal evening of David Lynch Night, celebrating the master filmmaker’s work with a special evening of Lynchian delights, beginning with a 35mm screening of his enigmatic 2001 film ‘Mulholland Drive’followed by the  delving into the mysterious world of Twin Peaks with a special TP-related screening. All served with the option of cherry pie and a damn fine cup of coffee.

Festival programmer David Baldwin says, 'We've always wanted Shock & Gore to offer a wide range of events for different tastes, and our fourth annual festival is a perfect example. So while there's plenty for the horror fanatics, we're also dabbling in the surreal, the controversial and the darker fringes of cinema.'
