Revenge for Jolly

“If I could marry anyone, I would marry Jolly. You can do that in India” says a drunk and high Harry (Brian Petsos) to his partner in crime Cecil (Oscar Isaac) about Jolly… his dog. But when Harry returns home to find Jolly hung from the ceiling, his world, and everyone else he bumps into, will be destroyed.

As far as plotlines go, ‘Revenge for Jolly’ goes batshit crazy. One dead mutt, one pissed off owner and a boot full of guns sees home hit the streets seeking the murderer and anyone who disrespects Molly along the way.

Usually the synopsis of the film is the make and break on how it may turn out. This one’s a little different. Laced with dark humour and ruthless violence. Take for example the execution of a wedding party for the sake of throwing some Caesar salad at the distressed Harry. As his search for the killer gets closer, the bloodshed only increases.

Several brief cameos from some big stars including a great stint by ‘Maniac’ star Elijah Wood and from the quick wit of, “It’s only a dog anyway” triggers Harry’s lust for revenge. The cameos are underused and its a shame with the talent involved but for the most part, Petsos and Isacc manage to carry the film with their own chemistry.

This will not be everyones cup of tea and if it’s a deep plot and great characters you want, step away now. But if it’s a good way to shoot off an hour and half, ‘Revenge for Jolly’ is a sure fire hit to zone out and watch the world roll by.
