Melissa Bolona

First of all, thank you for taking the time to speak to myself with Lookout UK. I just want to say, briefly talk about obviously your recent role in the neighbor.

Yeah, a role I'm very proud of.

Yeah, so how was that for you?

It was such a great experience. I learned a lot about myself as an actress and It was a great environment on set. It was definitely ... we were all very spoiled by it. Because it's one of those more small instrument experiences due to the limited number of cast members on it. So it was one of those rare experiences where it was just very easy and fluid and efficient.

Right, you certainly sort of look like you had a fun time in playing that role even though it was such a dark and twisted film.

Yeah, for sure, the irony of it all.

(laughs) So, how was it playing such a feisty character. How was it to actually play somebody who gave as good as the killers could give?

Yes. That was one of the things that really attracted me to the role. Amongst other things such as the challenge it was. I love to keep challenging myself as an actress and I love it when a girl like Sarah, or a girl like Rosie, just fends for herself and you know kicks some ass.

But, you know, there's nothing more kinda like girl power. That's something that really drew me to the film.

Definitely. And obviously the film leaves a little bit of a cliffhanger. Is it a role you'd like to come back to?

Oh absolutely. If they wanted to do a sequel to The Neighbor I would 100% be on board. But because, for the reasons I named. It was just such a great experience to be a part of and I was so attracted to the script and the story, I just think the movie came out tremendous and it's something I'm really proud of.

That's great to hear. Certainly the quality of The Neighbor was outstanding. I certainly look forward to seeing a return to the theaters if in fact the opportunity ever does come up. So, are you looking forward to ... are you currently working on any other horror projects?

Yes, I'm actually flying down to Mississippi next week to go back, you know, to the stomping ground where The Neighbor was shot, and I'm shooting a horror film called Malicious. It's actually the same producers as The Neighbor so I'm so excited to work with them again. I don't know if I'm allowed to say yet, but there's someone in this movie who was also in The Neighbor. But I will let them be the one to tell you.

Oh fantastic. It seems like you've made quite few friends on this film.

Yeah, absolutely. Everyone is so easy to work with and really really pleasant and I learned a lot from them being on set.

That's Great. So, for yourself, where do you see your future. Do you see yourself as one of the rising scream queens of the genre?

You know, I kind of flow wherever the wind takes me. I'm definitely a huge fan of the genre. Growing up me and my sister literally would try to watch all the horror film movies we could get our hands on. We were definitely horror film junkies. So, I'm a huge fan. But right now I just look at opportunities I think will be good to challenge myself as an actress and try new things and see what sticks. See what I'm good at. So hopefully everyone watching The Neighbor thinks that I'm good at sticking to that genre.

We certainly look forward to it. In regards to the films that you have partaken in, obviously The Neighbor is probably one of the most high profile roles of this year. I see you've also starring in, is it Dog Eat Dog with Willem Defoe and Nicholas Cage?

Yeah, Dog Eat Dog, another film I was in had a lot of success. They closed the Cannes Film Festival Directors Fortnight and they also were in the midnight madness section of the Toronto Film Festival. So excited to be a part of a film that people are really gravitating to and, it's one of those genres where there's a ton of violence and a ton of shootings and normally I don't watch those types of films. But when I saw this film I actually really really enjoyed it which is saying something because I don't typically watch those films.

We absolutely look forward to seeing that in the UK. I believe that's released next month over here.

Yes! It's going to be out in the UK, that's right.

Yeah, unfortunately we do get things a lot later over here.

(laughs) Yeah, I see.

You face off against obviously bounty hunters, kidnappers in The Neighbor, but obviously you've also had a history of fighting sharks in Shark Lake. Do you prefer fighting monsters or do you prefer fighting actual human beings?

Oh, that's a good question. I think I prefer fighting human beings. You can, I guess, see the results more. (laughs)

That's fantastic. Well thank you very much for taking the time to speak with us today. I'm a big fan I really appreciate you taking the time out.

Thank you so much for all your time.
