Masked

Masked is a 30 minute short horror film from writer/director Alex Williams. When writer Alex Luna (Luis Rodriguez) encounters a masked intruder he finds his wife Maggie (Emmy Frevele) murdered and himself taken in custody to unravel the events of what happened.

Haunted by the visions of a masked man over several days, Luis seeks the help of his close friend Oscar (Dylan Orozco) to try and find what is happening. After the events and as the film plays out through flashback of the events, Luis tells Dr Naomi Shaw (a criminal psychologist played by Lisa Armosino-Morris) his recollection. Playing to his story, she sees the facts and holds him as first suspect for the killing but as the plot thickens, so does the truth.

‘Masked’ is a brilliant film that at 30 minutes is perfectly paced and superbly directed matching tension and curiosity. It doesn’t need the overbearing filling that most independent movies fall down on and with a great score and several scenes that will make you jump out of your skin, this is a delight to watch.

Up to 25 minutes in, the plot feels as though it’s been churned out a million times before but the ending makes up for that in a way that this film stands out from many genre entries of late.

A mysterious thriller with a sinister twist, th
e truth can sometimes be blurrier than the evidence.
