Killer Pinata

Sometimes you have to think out loud, is there any idea the horror genre hasn’t taken onto film. We’ve had Sharknados, leprechauns, giant spiders, snowmen; heck, we’ve even had gingerbread men and just when you think there are no new ideas comes KILLER PINATA. But let’s be straight from the outset, just because it can be done, doesn’t mean it should.

A low budget offering from Stephen Tramontana, this gives a whole new meaning to the term creature feature as it’s antagonist is non other than a sweet stuffed Pinata with a lust for blood.

Labelled as a comedy horror, KILLER PINATA falls short of both and even fails at raising a chuckle for being so bad it’s good. The cast take it far too seriously and I can be certain that the relatively unknown stars may slip this of their resume. Yet the film has bigger criticism, mostly that of its creature. At no time is any attempt made to animate the blood thirsty mule instead the cast wrestle with a shop bought piñata in the hope that waving it about makes it look like it’s moving.

Unfortunately, it is too obvious it’s not and what you are left with is nearly 90 minutes of a hum drum group of teens terrified of a fearless Pinata.

Come on, even the terrible CGI from the library of The Asylum makes a more entertaining showdown and when you compare this to a studio who share no shame in bad creature features, The Asylum come out on top. KILLER PINATA is a terribly wasted opportunity, but then again, let’s take this one away from the genre and back in the hands of the children to smash to pieces, now there’s a great concept for a movie… ATTACK OF THE PINATA KIDS!
