When the Lights Went Out

FULL REVIEW

White Zombie
Starring none other than horror legend Bela Lugosi as a madman in love, this is one of horrors greats in an age of timeless classics. Ghastily images amongst an unnerving score make Lugosi's evil voodoo master entice you into his haunting spell as well as his beautiful victim. On a breakdown this is merely a reimagining of Frankenstein, done with flair and horror but it is the beauty of this film that stands this out amongst its grander inspiration.

The Wicker Man
Does this film need an introduction? Edward Woodward as the police officer looking for a missing person on an island full of Pagan followers to the evil Christopher Lee, a recipe for pure horror. The film floats softly and creepily until its chilling climax leading to thousands of viewers screaming "Nooooooooooo." Often imitated (Kill List) and remade (starring Nic "Wooden" Cage) but never beaten, The Wicker Man will remain a piece of British Classic Cinema.

The Wicker Tree
...or The Wicker Man: The Musical, dyre and a shame to admit this guy created the classic original. Poor remake or 'spiritual sequel' which doesn't have any of the horror or acting of the original, no tension and no 'oh my god' moments Apart from one scene near the end featuring some cannibalistic locals, there's nothing to save this film from damnation, Avoid, we wish we had.
