Eden Lake
This film is pure horror. No masks, haunting score or suburban setting, just one couple's nightmare against a ruthless group of delinquent teenagers. To put this in perspective I have watched this film once and refuse to watch it again. James Watkins really makes you angry after watching this film, and for once we was rooting for some good to come out of this story of shock and terror of something that could be so real. Leader of the gang, Brett, is ruthlessly hell-bent on ruining a couples retreat which begins with petty words and ends up in sheer pain as the film follows cat and mouse as Jenny and Steve try to end the weekend alive.

Evil Dead
First and foremost, there is no contender for the number one horror film of all time. Sam Raimi's masterpiece The Evil Dead, has the horror, the gore, the humour to stand tall as the king of horror. Bruce Campbell was perfectly cast as the now legendary Ash fighting off the deadite demons summoned by the reading the necronomicon. Five friends stay in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, summon up demons and get raped by our tree, this shouldn't work yet still lies as the benchmark for all horror films to see how it's done. Blood is poured by the gallon and the special make-up effects blow any green screen CGI effects out of the water. It's not the plot, it's the execution and Sam Raimi and company achieved this, (who would have thought stabbing a pencil into an apple would make for an eye wincing moment!)
Plot: 5 Fear: 5 Gore: 5
